Wassail! Wassale! Christmas Ale

the story of wassail:

Legend has it that in the fifth century, while seducing the Briton warlord Vortigen, the Saxon temptress Rowena raised her glass and toasted “Ves heill, Hlaford Cyning” or Good Health, Lord King. Rowena was successful, and the Saxons got their kingdom. For centuries after, the Anglo-Saxons raised their drinking cups and cheered “Ves heill!” (Wassail!)

This is the same greeting that peasants in the Middle Ages would give to farmers as they traveled around banging drums, singing and wishing them good luck on the next year’s crops. The farmers would greet the well-wishers with their best ales flavored with spice. Eventually the entire tradition (the greetings and the drink) became known as Wassail. Today we call it caroling.

Wassail! Wassale! is Narbrew’s take on spiced holiday ale. It is brewed with traditional mulling spices, just like the ales of the Middle Ages, as well as a touch of spruce. Wassail! Wassale! is truly Christmas in a bottle!
